Q: How did you first hear of Rachel Jasmine Studio and what made you want to book with us?
A: In typical millennial fashion, I found RJS on Instagram which led me to the website. Looking through the photos, it was clear to me Rachel has an incredible range as a photographer. The clients weren’t exclusively thin, social media influencers who narrowly met one idea of Western beauty. And the theme wasn’t exclusively smoldering-sexy-femme-fatale. Her clients are diverse and the photos encompass joy, playfulness, edge, sensuality, and fun. I had been looking for a photographer for portraits as a graduation present to myself and she was the first one I found who offered such a range of options.
Q: What was your initial reason for booking?
A: I had just finished my masters degree and I wanted to buy myself something empowering, something that celebrated me. It took me three years to finish while working full time and I wanted a monument to that sacrifice, hard work, and achievement. I have never had a professional portrait taken, not even when I got married. I was nervous the moment I hit send, but it was 100% the right choice.
Q: Did you have any expectations going into the shoot? What were they?
A: When I booked, I expected it to be awkward and emotionless. I thought a photographer just told you where to move and took the picture. I was wrong. The pre-shoot information packets helped me understand the process, but I did not expect it to be as fun as it was! The photoshoot really is an experience on its own. Rachel is amazing to work with and not for one second did I feel awkward. I felt like a badass the whole time.
Q: What was it like seeing your images for the first time?
A: I was shocked and delighted. 1. Because the quality of her work is just incredible. And 2. because I honestly thought mine weren’t going to be as amazing as the ones on the website. But they were. When you do something like this you get to comfort your insecurities. I honestly think the experience is a very healthy one. I got to see me and my body celebrated and I realized it is worth celebrating.
Q: What products did you purchase, and why do you think other women might love the same pieces?
A: One of the products I got was the photo album. The finish is quality and it is really well made. I would encourage you to get it if you can. Most of the time I am looking at photos digitally, but to hold it in your hands and see it on the coffee table or bookshelf makes it a little more special.
Q: Has anything changed for you since your boudoir experience and seeing your gallery? How has boudoir impacted your body image as a woman?
A: YES! I realized I will be doing a photoshoot again! When you are told over and over that you’re not sexy or beautiful by people or society or yourself, you start believing it. And I feel like that negativity bleeds into other aspects of your life. But then you get to see your power and confidence come through in a portrait, and it serves as a little reminder that you are amazing. I actually hung a photo up in my home office so I can keep that confidence while I work!
Q: Would you recommend Rachel Jasmine Studio for the luxury boudoir experience to others?
A: Absolutely. I showed my photos to so many friends and said, “You HAVE TO do this.” Being photographed by Rachel Jasmine Studio is such an empowering and liberating experience. Also, I think this would make an extraordinary gift for a partner (with their consent).
Q: What advice would you give to another woman considering the boudoir experience with Rachel Jasmine Studio?
A: Do it. If you have the means and the ability, just book it. Literally right now.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to add to your interview?
A: I would encourage anyone booking for the first time to push their limits! Rachel has such a calming professional presence and she made me feel at home right away. I played it safe for my first photoshoot but I guarantee I won’t be playing it safe next time!
